We went to Fire Station 1 last night. The lobster BLT is really good. The wings appetizer was good, and different than what you might thing. It's chunks of breast meat, no breading, in a sauce that's sweet and hot, then the chunk has a piece of celery through it like an edible skewer. It's actually very good.

We also were at FS1 last night. I thought the place had a great vibe. Yeah, it was a typically rocky opening night--beer taps didn't work, food was a bit undercooked, wait staff was overwhelmed--but most of the patrons seemed to understand, and the waiters kept smiles on their faces and we all got through it. I look forward to going back in a few weeks when they've ironed things out a bit. I think it's a great addition to the neighborhood.

To be fair to Veritas:

1) I have actually been in there and purchased some of their very good caramels and truffles.

2) I am pretty sure the bulk of their business is catering/special events stuff like weddings. So they really don't need a whole lot of foot traffic in the actual store.

Since you brought up the subject of whether the balloon place is a front for prostitution, can someone investigate and figure out what Veritas caramels or the corset place on Georgia Ave are fronts for? Because it's obviously something... I have not seen one person in either of those places - EVER - and I walk by both a lot. I'd love it if someone were to visit both and report back.

I got no prostitution vibes when I went shopping there for helium balloons, but the place definitely sells Santeria paraphernalia.

Voodoo? Don't know about that, but we definitely have Santeria practitioners. Just stroll down Bonifant Street and walk into the store advertising balloons; they sell more than just balloons.
