Whatever happened to that steel drum dude? He was cleverly playing a rendition of Vivaldi on his steel drum. He could do a good job drowning out the Scientologists.

I really don't have a problem with he Scientologists setting up shop. They should be allowed the same rights as anyone else. It's not like they force people to take their stress tests. They should totally stage a battle with the Evangelist who passes out flyers up by the Panera and the front of downtown SS.

Still, insofar as they have Official Status As Religion (not sure whether handing out said status violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment), they can prosyletize as much as people will tolerate. I mean by this, ask yourself whether you'd tolerate Mormons or even old-school Jesus Freaks or JFJ for that matter. Or Rajneeshis (sp?) or HKs.

As for me, being a Tree Hugger Cultist, you won't find me down at the SS Metro, not enough trees to hug there in the cathedral of the Pave The Bay Cult. I'd get better play up in Takoma Park where we already have a strong base. ;)

Maybe the $cienos figured they'd have the greatest likelyhood of getting converts at a place that's the hub of the All About Money folks.

Thus, if you want less $cientologists, stop flaunting your wealth and bragging about how well off you are.

Borders has fre WiFi as does supposedly all of downtown SS - I have NEVER been able to get a connection there though. Think Highland Coffee also has a "free wifi" sign in their window too.

@Sligo it is not whether you or I, Montgomery County or WMATA consider them a business or a church it's if
the IRS does. On October 1st 1993 they won a tax exemption status from the IRS after a 26 year legal battle with the IRS. This got a lot of press over the years it went on.

I don't know. I'd rather walk up that street and get bothered by Scientologists than by people begging me for change. At least Scientologists smell good. It is a public street, after all, so they have full rights to give e-meter readings. I mean, when's the last time you got your Thetan levels checked?

It's public property. Same law that let's me take pictures and let's you dress up as a Zombie and march down the street makes this legal.

People are allowed to do those things. The only gray area here is setting up tables. But they would have to prove that the tables impede traffic and then take on the Scientologists. It's easier forauthorities to just screw around with photographers and skate boarders.
