I was volunteering at a reception at Long Branch Library last night (the first in a series called "Out at the Library" featuring gay authors and gay-oriented books), and had a nice chat with the manager there. According to her, there's been a sharp decline in the youth/gang violence, partly due to occasional police presence but also because of a great training program that taught the staff how to deal with teens. That program is now being used by other libraries. She told me there hasn't been an incident so far this year and that Long Branch is drawing more functions to its space.
