Save the Date: Fourth Annual Silver Spring Zombie Walk - 10/22/11
Block your calendars - this year's Silver Spring Zombie Walk has been officially scheduled for Saturday, October 22nd.
Many of the details are left to be determined, but one thing's for certain - we will do our best to improve on last year's phenomenal showing. I'm thinking, among other things, of lining up some food (and beer???) trucks for the pre-walk festivities.

Of course, it all depends on what reels AFI can actually procure for that weekend.

Would be nice, but I could have sworn I read on one of the twitter feeds for either Suburbbros or Tops that food trucks in MoCo can't operate after dark.
Hmmm I do recall seeing that myself. Sometimes I really hate MoCo.
For movies, there's always "Plague of the Zombies," (a 60s British film) and "White Zombie" with Bela Lugosi (a minor classic). Worth considering.
I hate to be a party-pooper but this whole zombie thing in Silver Spring just doesn't do it for me. I know, I know, it does seem to be popular, but I find it kind of sad that that's what Silver Spring is known for. Just my $0.05 - don't lambast me.
Better to be known for something than not be known at all.
Nazi Zombies are the worst. It's possible that Dead Snow could be the greatest film of all time.
I agree with "I can't believe he said.." in that SS being known for the zombie thing is kind of sad (and weird) but hey if it's get people (or zombies) in the street having fun, supporting local businessess...then I'm all for it. I would love for SS to also be known for something else...such as great architectural style or a super hip entertainment district (I know AFI, Roundhouse, and soon to be Fillmore). I'm excited to see how Silver Spring further develops and defines itself...maybe even beyond its recent zombie fame.
Silver Spring IS known for lots of other things. It is known as one of the most walkable and mass transit friendly neighborhoods in the whole DC metro region, all while still being relatively affordable.
That is good enough for me.

The zombie walk is awesome, but it's hardly "what Silver Spring is known for" considering events like the jazz festival and thanksgiving parade attract tons more notice and visitors. All this assuming a single hour could be what a place is known for, which is obviously pretty silly.
I don't think "I can't believe he said" is saying the ONLY thing SS is known for is the zombie walk. Look, anyone who's spent anytime in DC or SS knows it's a major transportation hub, has AFI, home of Discovery, the jazz festival, thanksgiving parade, etc.. Maybe the poster was reacting to how much attention this blog and others pay the whole zombie thing...not to mention it has its own website and facebook page. To think that someone only associates SS with the 1 hour zombie night is silly.

Just wait for the Fillmore! Glad the Birchmere thing passed us by, and gladder still to not expand the 9:30 guy's empire, that guy was a grump.

I vote for Lucio Fulci's Zombie. Blue Underground is releasing a blu-ray around the time of the zombie walk, so maybe they can contact them to strike up a print for AFI from the new HD master... or at least send them an early copy of the blu-ray :-p Wasn't Dawn of the Dead a digital projection last year? Didn't look like it was on film.
Note: There will probably be some overlap with the RunForYourLives 5k run & Obstacle Course (with Zombies) up in the Baltimore area. I know I'm hoping and planning to attend both, if possible (RunForYourLives being a daytime event).
