Rock the Red in South Silver Spring This Saturday

*** UPDATE: THE GAME HAS BEEN MOVED TO 8PM SATURDAY NIGHT ***

After years of my bitching and moaning, Silver Spring finally has a proper sports bar, and we better support it wholeheartedly lest we be left with nowhere worthwhile to view sports. With that in mind, I hereby declare Babe's Sports Bar, located at 1115 East West Highway, the official unofficial venue in Silver Spring at which to watch this Saturday's NHL Winter Classic. This year's match-up pits our heroic Washington Capitals vs. the nefarious Penguins of Pittsburgh.

Babe's is presently living off the grid, not having established a website, Twitter feed or Facebook page (update: it's here), at least to my knowledge. However, it does already have a few positive reviews on Yelp! along with a couple (suspiciously?) glowing reviews posted on this blog. Also, Thayer Avenue will vouch for the dry rub ribs. If there's anyone from the bar reading this who wants to offer specials for Caps fans, shoot me an email and I'll let everyone know.

Provided the weather in Pittsburgh permits, TV coverage will start at 1PM, with the puck dropping shortly thereafter. The wearing of Capitals jerseys is encouraged, but even if you don't own a jersey be sure to Rock the Red.

In addition to the Winter Classic, there will also be the usual lineup of New Year's Day college bowl games to watch that afternoon.

CAPS!

P.S. -  Penguins fans not allowed. Just kidding, they are perfectly welcome to watch through the window from the street. Viewing from a distance in the cold - it will be just like being at the Winter Classic itself!

Actually, worse than cold, we're facing a rainout on Saturday with Sunday as the backup. Then again, the daily forecast in Pittsburgh is "partly cloudy," which gives much more leeway for any kind of weather to ensue.

I will say that I enjoy the rivalry and the 24/7 show on HBO is awesome! Am planning on watching at home where the beer is delicious and cold, service is self, the audio can be heard, and I won't have to hear the frustrated Caps fans' tears dripping into their beer. Mwha-ha-ha-ha!!!!

Heck, even on Tuesday's Caps game recap, the guys were saying "Pittsburgh's suiting up 5 Hall of Famers for the Alumni Game Friday night; that ain't fair!" WAHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Excuuuuuuse me. You just dissed my hometown guys - the Penguins. Yes, I have lived here (& DC) since 1977. You have to ask everyone to be there & be fair. I'm staying home.

Have fun.

Isn't Silver Spring's main icon in fact... a PENGUIN?!

Yes. And if you look on the back of the Silver Spring Penguin's jersey, you'll see the words "CROSBY SUCKS."

I never understand the hate for one individual player who you'd *kill* to have on your team. Any Caps fan would swap #8 for #87 in a heartbeat without hesitation.

"Crosby Sucks"? 32 goals and 65 points this year to date while Ovechkin has 14 and 42 respectively. So... if Crosby sucks, what does Ovechkin do?

With all due respect to Crosby, I don't think many Caps fans would agree to a trade of Ovechekin for Crosby. If you want to compare stats over time Ovechekin wins by a great margin.

Awww Penguins fans, don't be sad- I'm just kidding, of course you are welcome. (Not that I could stop you.)

Caps fans may not trade 8 for 87...but i sure bet they would trade our championships for their playoff disappearing acts...

Y'all see the story about the Woodlin Hills Spec. Ed. teacher busted at Thayer & Georgia for heroin possesion?

On another note, maybe skateboarders should be allowed in the skating rink....

Looks like the NHL just moved the start time to 8pm. See you at Babe's tomorrow night. Go Caps!

Death, old age, are words without a meaning, that pass by us like the idle air which we regard not Diablo 3 Gold Sale, It takes strength to do what must be done when the work is unpleasant and uncomfortable Diablo 3 Gold, it takes strength to persist in the face of obstacles, when it would be much easier to simply give up Buy Diablo 3 Gold
