Sacrilege

Mongtomery Donuts (which originated in Silver Spring) has returned... in Virginia. If you grew up in Silver Spring or elsewhere in Montgomery County, you know just how terribly wrong this is. I tried to come up with a clever analogy to explain it to non-locals, but there is no apt comparison.

Somewhere, this boy is crying all over his sprinkled donut.

It is a shame that great Silver Spring institutions, be they donuts or Gifford's Ice Cream, go under only to be resurrected in other, less deserving places.

Though, I mean, it might still be worth going to Crystal City for my first Montgomery Donut in I don't remember how long.

Dan, is it really a Mongtomery Donut if it comes from Arlington?

SSS & Dan,

I contacted Washington Post columnist John Kelley who wrote about Montgomery Donuts and expressed my same displeasure...that both institutions born within a couple of blocks of one another on Georgia Avenue...have decamped and set up shop everywhere except Silver Spring.

This is indeed, so wrong.

I'm going to begin to campaign to get these two back to SS where they belong. Wanna join me?

I am crying! :(
That just isn't right. It was bad enough when they closed in Montgomery County.

Although I prefer Krispy Kremes, I also like MoDos.

BUT -- any attempt to bring them back would be met by stiff opposition from both the food police and the anti-chain police. All those carbs are NOT what a lot of people feel is right for SS.

Well, they have to be healthier than the ones at Fractured Prune.

Brent - why do you assume that? I'd think many in downtown SS still very much miss the MoDos location that was on Wayne and closed years ago :-(
