Seattle Spares Silver Spring's Starbucks

Starbucks released their list of 600 stores to be closed (PDF) today and despite my speculation to the contrary, all of the locations in Silver Spring avoided the hangman's noose.

I don't know why I even care - I rarely even go to Starbucks. I guess it's just principle. The fact that we have the economic wherewithal to continue supporting three Starbucks within a few blocks of each other is a positive sign.

Wheaton wasn't so lucky... they one inside Wheaton Plaza (YES IT'S WHEATON PLAZA) was on the cut list. Of course, there's another one in the same shopping center, so they shan't go without.

Is this the Starbucks inside Wheaton Plaza or the one outside on University Boulevard?

inside, based on the street address

Yeh, really! They didn't even cut the one in Langley Park at the corner of New Hampshire and University. That's a good sign, too. There are 2 in Wheaton Plaza? Wow. I pride myself on the fact that I can walk the length of the Plaza without having to make 2 Starbucks stops.

Every once in a while, I like a mocha frappuchino. Lite, of course.

I'd personally love a tea shop in DTSS, maybe something along the lines of Teaism or Ten Ren. Being able to easily get one of Teaism's chai shakes would be bliss.

The Outside Wheaton Plaza Starbucks is probably my favorite one in the area. Well-lit, good seating availability, and amiable baristas. I have seen the occasional homeless drifter walk in, but not nearly as many as in the 'bucks near the SS Metro.

I see the "now open" Sbucks next to the College Park Ikea is going to be "now closed" almost as quickly.

Starbucks is moving forward with its counter inside the Giant supermarket. View image

When is the Starbucks in Giant supposed to open? I have a feeling that is going to be very annoying if huge lines are created in the middle of the store while you're trying to shop.

that one is a franchise

A lot of safeways have starbucks...not ours, of course.

I think the Post missed the Wheaton store in it's list.

Wheaton Plaza isn't doing so good anyway. I saw a sign that Steve & Barry's, which just declared bankruptcy was going to open there. The Macy's there is miserable.

Yes, the Macy's there is substandard, unlike the ones at Tyson's and Montgomery Mall.

OMG Vagrarian - if a Ten Ren were to open up in the DTSS area I would be in heaven. Right now I've been driving up to Rockville or College Park to get my tea/bubble tea fix!

Hm, maybe we need to pester them to open a branch here. Or some other place; I'd love a nice tea shop in the neighborhood. There's enough coffee to go around. Both Ten Ren and Teaism have their ups and downs but I'd welcome either to this area.
