Two Shot in Downtown Silver Spring

Two people were shot at 5:30 this morning in downtown Silver Spring, right across from the Metro Station.

Police say about 5:30 am. Sunday they were called to Caribbean Style Restaurant on Ramsey Avenue and found a 33-year-old man and 21-year-old woman with gunshot wounds.

Officials say a group had left the nightclub and started arguing outside. They say at least one person fired several shots at the man and woman, who were near the front of the nightclub
Now maybe I don't go out as much as I used to, but don't bars in MoCo have to close by 2AM? Why were people still in the club at 5:30? Oh, and I bet dollars to donuts that none of the eventual suspects in this case actually live in Silver Spring.

Maybe this was a party that followed up Saturday's Caribbean festival on Georgia Avenue. I had been wondering what everyone was doing carrying around Jamaican and Dominican flags Saturday afternoon on Ellsworth.

UDPATE: Slightly more in today's Post. Fortunately the suspect wasn't a very good shot... with 17 shots fired, only two people were hit and it looks like they will both live. Speaking of handguns, Atlantic Guns, strategically located just across the DC line, will likely reap the benefits of the D.C. handgun ban ruling.

NBC4 said that, by 2 AM, places have to stop serving alcohol, but it's not required that they close by then (though it is encouraged).

In any event, this incident is disconcerting.

There was a big puddle of dry blood still there late Sunday afternoon... Great cleaning job...

If they are (really) not serving drinks anymore, what is the club's motivation for staying open another three hours?

Further ghetto crime from SS... what a shocker.

Anonymous 9:25 AM:

If my prediction holds true, this shooting will prove to have been committed by someone from OUTSIDE Silver Spring. Usually there isn't much of this type of violent crime in Downtown Silver Spring, so this is an exception.

Anonymous - get a life, you're the only person who labeled this "ghetto crime."

BTW can you define why this is a ghetto crime?

No one likes to admit it, but this kind of crime doesnt happen in Bethesda or Arlington. The faster that Silver Spring can get rid of places that attract this kind of clinetele, the better.

Why is this a ghetto crime? Because someone was at a club at 5 in the morning, over 3 hours after the law requires liquor to stop being sold.

Before everyone gets all riled up, I'm a black woman that lives in downtown Silver Spring.

Young people like to go out and have fun and just because you are not the party type doesn't mean that everyone else can't go out and have fun til' 5 in the morning.

RE: Also what difference does it make if a Club closes at 2AM or 6AM because a shooting/stabbing can occure at anytime in the night or day.

I've been to plenty of clubs in Atlanta, Georgia that stayed open til' 7AM Sun Rise without any incidents of shootings/stabbings...

The best way to resolve future insidence is to have more Law Enforcments outside of the Clubs and also install Metal Detectors at every entrence...

Clearly you are new to Montgomery County. Bars (term used loosely) close down at 2. PERIOD. Silver Spring is not Miami or New York. Believe me, most people would prefer to stay longer but that's just how it is. People know this, that's why they are curious why the club was still open at 5:30. The police are curious about this, too.

Were they in the club NOT drinking for 4 hours? Sounds suspicious. Last call is usually the cue for the after party.

RE: I'm from MoCo Thank You. And no Silver Spring is not New York or Miami and Atlanta, Houston, Charlotte, New Orleanes aren't either but they have clubs/bars that stay open well past 2 AM with little to no massive incidents of shootings/stabbings.

You seem to not care to understand that shootings/stabbings can happen at any hour of the night and day and it should not be the dictator of Clubs/bars closing very early in the night.

You and some others want to skip the fact that if there are better security at bars/clubs there wouldn't be any issues of shootings/stabbings, but no you anti-social folx want to look for excuses to shut down clubs/bars especially urban clubs/bars just soo to make the area to be viewed as a small hick town that closes everything after 6 PM.....

Since the shooter in this case went to his car and got his gun, your point is kind of moot.

And if bars in Silver Spring require a metal detector then it's time for me to move.
