Woop-woop! That's the sound of da police!

- According to a reader tip, a dead body was found in the bushes near the old courthouse in downtown Silver Spring.

They could see it from their office window. [My husband] said that the Homicide detectives showed up. I think right now they are waiting for the coroner to come and cart the body away. I walked over there but they have the body blocked by a police car.
I thought it was absurd when someone was quoted in this Post article saying that "The Wire" reminded them of their youth Silver Spring, but perhaps that wasn't such a stretch after all.

- Uh, oh, another home invasion in Silver Spring. I think this calls for the official home invasion graphic:

- Yesterday there was a shootout between armored car drivers and a "band of robbers" in Aspen Hill, which is one of those quasi-Silver Spring places. Sounds like a scene out of "Heat", only with really lame robbers. Perhaps they should bring in Waingro for questioning.

Fast reporting on the body found. When I drove down Georgia Avenue this morning past the old courthouse, I saw one police car pulled up on the curb, a couple of women standing near the street staring, and a female police officer appearing quite agitated. It must have just been discovered. This was right around 9 a.m.

Considering the number of homeless people in the area, it could very well have been on of them.

I recall a few years ago that a body of a homeless person was found in the woods right past the circle at 16th and Rt.29

On another note- with the increase in crime lately, perhaps the Council could pass a concealed carry bill for legal gunowners- it better to have such a law and not need it, than not have the law and need it

I love your link to the courthouse. It is a satellite photo of Silver Spring circa 2002 (most likely). If it were up to Marilyn Praisner, the area would still look like that today.

Wait a sec... Has there really been an "increase in crime" in Silver Spring--or just a few high-profile events in the last few months? From what I'm told by the police, crime is down (year over year) in the area.

From the sound of it, I'm starting to think some of you posters are short-selling your condo investments in the area. There seems to a general tone on this site that Silver Spring has taken a sudden downturn.

Serious crime is pretty much flat in Silver Spring perhaps even down. We're lucky we don't have the MS-13 gang problems like Gaithersburg.

I never understood the use of that character name...Waingro...it's not a common name by any means.

You need to become more timely in posting information. I hate having to wait so long for news about downtown SS. Go Blazers!

Yes, you're right. I've been lax and neglectful. I'm going to try and catch up the next week or so - it's the slow time at work...

The fact that "Waingro" is so unusual is probably why I remember the character's name in the first place.
