Silver Spring News 'N Notes

- What's up with Piratz Tavern? It was certainly a popular topic of conversation around here for a while. Last I heard it was supposed to open at the end of August. Anyone hear any updates? One thing I can say for sure is that when it does open, these guys will be performing there.

- The dead jogger found in Fairland Regional Park has been identified. Question: a dead body found lying in a parking lot has "serious head trauma", yet there is "no indication of foul play"? I'm no Columbo, but something seems suspicious to me.

I hear it is supposed to open this weekend. I am sad as I will be out of town for the fine event!

Yikes. Fairland would be fairly quiet at that hour. I wonder how accurate the story is--that is, Fairland is split between Montgomery and Prince George's counties, so which county he was in would determine which parking lot he was at. The southern lot is in Montgomery and there isn't too much down there (playground, some tennis and ball parks); the northern lots are in Price George's and have a lot more stuff (indoor tennis bubble, among other things.)

I assume it was on the MoCo side, as the MoCo police have been issuing press releases.

I understand he was Secret Service?

Any thing on this aspect?

Maybe he tripped, fell & hit his head - not an uncommon occurence for joggers esp. in dim lighting - if it is an obvious accident then no foul play would be suspected.

I would link the murder to the Kennedy assassination. Yes, I would. No, just kidding!
Poor guy, went for jog, lost his life. Felt the same way about Chandra Levy.
The tavern looks smaller than I imagined it would be, but maybe it's one of those "small on the outside but big on the inside" type of places, like in "Being John Malkovich."

I heard from the owners of Piratz Tavern that they had hoped to open by now but got held up by some permitting issues. An opening this weekend is probable.

Just in time for this

I asked someone in the Secret Service if they heard about it and they didn't know what I was talking about. Not that it isn't a big agency or anything.
