Hump Day Update

- Here's a picture of the recently re-installed Canada Dry sign on the Silverton Condos. I Don't know if I'd want to live in a unit right above the sign. It reminds me of the episode of Seinfeld where the Kenny Rogers Roasters installed a sign across from Kramer's window.

- The Piney Branch area continues to be a hotbed of crime. According to the MoCO PD, there have been 20 robberies in the area since June 1st. The Gazette has more.

There was also another home invasion that occured nearby earlier this month. I think this calls for the official NBC4 'home invasion' logo:

- Gerald Alex Bigsby, who robbed the Bank of America in downtown Silver Spring twice, has pled guilty to those and other bank robberies.

Maybe that guy who robbed the bank of america was just frustrated because the freakin ATM machine there never works. has anyone else noticed that? every time we go there we either can't get money out or can't make any deposits.

Is it just me, or is "home invasion" an overhyped, news cycle-inspired, fearmongering name for what we used to call the ole B&E robberies of yore? I miss the days when the first 20 minutes of a half-hour TV newscast didn't always begin with the murder/fire/robbery of the day...

Agree with the anonymous types!
The Bank of America ATM may or may not function due to belligerent Quarryhouse drunks.
And, if anything, the local news ought to do more stories like you guys do, exploring local development issues and the such. We're not babies, we can handle complicated topics. But murder and crime stories have a place too.

The main difference between a "home invasion" and a standard B&E is that the residents of the home are generally both present and awake during the former. It's not sneaking in to a house to steal something and accidentally running into a resident, it's deliberately crashing one's way in to a house to confront the residents directly in the course of the robbery. Or at least that's how I've seen it described.

It makes you think when you hear some creaks downstairs...

I don't know if I would want any of those condos, sign or not. It's really a miserable site, wedged between a state highway and the railroad tracks. All the units have miserable views.

Might be good if you are a trainspotter.
